The Oklahoma State Cowboys faced a tough defeat against the Oregon Ducks, losing 69-3 on Saturday (September 6) in Eugene, Oregon. This marked the largest loss for the Cowboys in over a century and the biggest under Coach Mike Gundy's 20-year tenure. Oklahoma State has struggled recently, winning only one of their last 11 games dating back to last season.
Oregon's offense dominated, with nine players contributing to their 631 total yards. Quarterback Dante Moore threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns, while Dakorien Moore added both a rushing and receiving touchdown. The Ducks' defense also shone, with two interception returns for touchdowns in the third quarter.
Oklahoma State's only points came from a 23-yard field goal by Logan Ward. Starting quarterback Hauss Hejny was sidelined due to a foot injury, leading to third-year freshman Zane Flores making his first career start. Flores completed seven of 19 passes for 67 yards and two interceptions.
Oregon Coach Dan Lanning expressed satisfaction with the team's performance but acknowledged areas for improvement, citing penalties in the first half. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy emphasized the need for better execution and fundamentals.
Oregon has outscored its opponents 128-16 in the first two games of the season. The Cowboys will look to regroup as they host Tulsa on September 19, while Oregon will face Northwestern next Saturday.
