The Heartland Flyer passenger rail line, connecting Fort Worth to Oklahoma City, has been saved from closure after the North Central Texas Council of Governments approved $3.5 million in funding. The line, which has operated for 25 years, faced shutdown due to Texas lawmakers cutting its funding. The train, carrying nearly 80,000 passengers annually, is seen as a critical piece of infrastructure and a connection to American history. With the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches in 2026 expected to bring more tourists to the region, supporters hope for continued funding from both Texas and Oklahoma to preserve the service.
