Oklahoma's U.S. Senators, James Lankford and Markwayne Mullin, have expressed their views following Israel's recent military strikes on Iran. Senator Lankford emphasized the threat posed by Iran's nuclear ambitions and hostile rhetoric. He stated, "The Iranian regime has threatened the world, advanced their nuclear weapon capacity, and rejected negotiated options. When the Iranian regime chants 'Death to Israel' and 'Death to America,' we should believe they mean it. They cannot have a nuclear weapon."

Senator Mullin echoed the importance of diplomacy but stressed the need for a strong response if American interests are threatened. He remarked, "President Trump has made it clear, we prefer diplomacy with Iran, but if they threaten American interests, Iran will discover the true meaning of peace through strength."

The comments come amid ongoing diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Iran regarding Iran's nuclear program. President Donald Trump has pursued a strategy of "maximum pressure" on Iran to end its nuclear threat and support for terrorist groups. The talks, which began in April 2025, aim to reach a deal that prevents Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. President Trump has indicated that the two sides are "close" to an agreement.

The strikes by Israel are part of a broader regional conflict involving Iran-backed groups, which have engaged in military actions against U.S. and Israeli interests.
