Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced a significant economic development with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) planning to build a $4 billion aluminum plant at the Tulsa Port of Inola. This facility will be the first new primary aluminum production plant in the United States in 45 years, marking a major milestone for the state's manufacturing sector.
The project is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs and 1,800 indirect jobs, bolstering Oklahoma's economy. Governor Stitt described the investment as a "monumental day for Oklahoma" and emphasized the state's growing role as a hub for critical minerals manufacturing. The facility, spanning over 350 acres, will produce billets, sheet ingots, high-purity aluminum, and foundry alloys.
The plant is projected to produce 600,000 tons of aluminum annually, significantly increasing the domestic supply for key industries such as aerospace, automotive, and defense. The project aligns with efforts to onshore the U.S. supply chain for critical minerals, a vision supported by President Donald Trump.
Oklahoma's incentive package includes $275 million in state funds, tax exemptions, and power discounts to support the project. The agreement between EGA and state leaders, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding, is pending approval from the Oklahoma Legislature.
The plant will be located in a 2,200-acre industrial park with access to rail, barge transportation, and global waterways, positioning Oklahoma as a key player in the global manufacturing landscape.
