The city of Ada, Oklahoma, experienced significant damage after a severe storm, including an EF-1 tornado, swept through Pontotoc County early Tuesday morning. According to City Manager Tracy Roles, the storm caused extensive damage, particularly in the central and northeastern parts of the city. Many buildings were damaged, trees were uprooted, and power lines were knocked down.
The Ada tornado developed on the west side of town near State Highway 1 and Barnes Avenue, then moved east-northeast through Ada, and dissipating northeast of East Central University and Arlington Center. A few mobile homes, utility poles and trees were damaged along the path. An apartment complex received roof damage northeast of ECU.
Willard Elementary School was among the buildings that suffered substantial damage. The storm displaced about 24 families, though only one injury was reported.
The storm also damaged the Oxford Square Apartments and several other locations, including Lobo's Tires and Wheels on West Main Street and Glenwood Pool on 10th Street. Despite the extensive property damage, the human toll was limited, with local authorities focusing on recovery efforts.
The National Weather Service office in Norman gave the tornado a preliminary rating of EF-1.
