Oklahoma City police responding to a welfare check overnight found a badly injured clerk at a gas station.

Police Sergeant Dillon Quirk says the victim was barely alive when police arrived at a 7-11 near Wilshire and Council in northwest Oklahoma City.

"Police arrived here, found one person critically wounded. That person has now been pronounced deceased," said Quirk.

Police say the victim had been stabbed during an attempted robbery. A suspect is on the run.
