Oklahoma public schools are seeing more teachers with emergency certifications. As of September, 3,783 people were seeking emergency certificates.
Oklahoma Education Association President Katherine Bishop says it appears the number of emergency teacher certifications will continue increasing.
"If things don't change, it is going to increase. We've seen it from last year to this year," said Bishop.
Emergency certificates let school districts hire teachers without traditional teaching credentials when they can't find a certified or licensed teacher.
"It gives great concerns to our districts that are having to figure out how to handle this amount of emergency certifications and the strain that it is putting on our current educators that are there," said Bishop.
