Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt is urging voters to support a proposed hotel tax increase. Holt dedicated part of yesterday's State of the City Address to tourism, and he noted that a vote in August to raise the city's hotel tax will help local tourism grow. The proposal calls for increasing the hotel tax from 14% to more than 17%.

Meanwhile, Holt also says work needs to be done with Olympic events scheduled to come to the area. Los Angeles is the host city of the 2028 Summer Olympics, and Oklahoma City is preparing to support the games by hosting softball and canoe slalom events. Holt says venues including Riversport OKC and Devon Park are already in place, but the city needs to get ready for the number of visitors those events will bring.
