A suspect is dead and an Oklahoma City police officer hospitalized after a standoff with an armed man this morning at a house near NW 36th and Penn.

Oklahoma City Police Captain Valerie Littlejohn says police got a call about a man holding a gun to someone's head and when they arrived at the scene they were met by gunfire from inside the residence.

Littlejohn said one officer was shot and rushed to OU Medical Center. "That officer did undergo surgery and is doing well at this time," said Littlejohn.

Police say the suspect continued to shoot at officers and one officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.

A SWAT team later breeched the house and found the suspect dead inside. Two women and three children were inside the home at the time, but were not hurt.
