Maryland Rape/Murder Suspect Arrested In Tulsa

Tulsa police have arrested an illegal immigrant in the murder of Rachel Morin, the Maryland mother of five who was killed while hiking last year. Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, had been on the run since the murder last August.

Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg says Martinez-Hernandez was tracked down at a bar in Tulsa over the weekend, where he was taken into custody. In addition to the murder of Morin, he has also been linked to a home invasion in Los Angeles and a murder of a woman in his native El Salvador.

In a news conference Saturday, Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said Martinez-Hernandez is awaiting extradition.

Maryland's only Republican in Congress is reacting to the arrest. Andy Harris says the Biden Administration owes justice to Rachel Morin's family and to many families across the country for allowing "violent migrant crime to run rampant in our communities." Twenty-three-year-old Victor Martinez-Hernandez was arrested Friday night in Oklahoma and is awaiting extradition to Maryland. He was allegedly fleeing from a murder warrant in El Salvador when he crossed the U.S. border in 2023. He is accused of attacking a woman and child in California just months before he allegedly raped and murdered Morin along the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air.
