A bill in the Oklahoma State Legislature would criminalize sexually transmitted diseases, potentially turning thousands into felons. Those who spread things like chlamydia and herpes face five years in prison. Opponents say the proposed legislation is so broad, it does not leave room for those who unintentionally spread an STD. And there is no exemption for the human papillomavirus, commonly called HPV. The bill sailed through the State House and is now in the Senate.
