State lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are supporting a GOP-led effort to deep-six Oklahoma grocery tax. The news comes after Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat introduced legislation to eliminate the tax, which currently stands at 4.5%. Treat's measure - Senate Bill 1283 - reportedly would exempt food and food ingredients. However, it would not ban municipalities from maintaining or imposing their own taxes on groceries. Administration officials, meanwhile, say Governor Kevin Stitt supports the measure.
