The scheduled execution of Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip has been temporarily blocked after a ruling today by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Glossip had been scheduled to be executed on May 18.
Well-known death penalty opponent Sister Helen Prejean was among those who had earlier called on Governor Kevin Stitt to grant death row inmate Richard Glossip yet another 60-day stay of execution. Prejean's book "Dead Man Walking" was turned into a movie starring Susan Sarandon. She took part in a news conference yesterday at the State Capitol.
Glossip was convicted in the 1997 murder-for-hire killing of his former boss.
