A McCurtain County Commissioner that was recorded allegedly discussing murdering journalists and hanging Black people with other local officials has resigned. Mark Jennings is leaving office after the McAlester Gazette-News published the recording of him and three members of the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office, including Sheriff Kevin Clardy. The recording allegedly captures the four talking about killing and burying a reporter, and seemingly reminiscing about lynchings. Governor Kevin Stitt said he was "appalled and disheartened" by the recording, and called on all four involved to resign.
