Walters Sues Feds Over Border Policy Costs To Oklahoma Schools

State Superintendent Ryan Walters is suing the leaders of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Walters says he filed the $474 million lawsuit to seek compensation for what he calls severe financial and operational strain that failed border policies have on Oklahoma's public schools. In October 2024, Walters called on Vice President Kamala Harris to have the federal government reimburse the state $474 million for failure to secure the border.
