Oklahoma will make its 58th bowl appearance — and school-record 26th in a row — when it faces Navy in the 22nd Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27, in Fort Worth, Texas. OU's bowl destination was announced Sunday afternoon.

The Armed Forces Bowl, which will be played at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of TCU, is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be televised by ESPN. The game will mark OU's first-ever appearance in the Armed Forces Bowl and Navy's third (it beat Middle Tennessee in 2013 and lost to Louisiana Tech in 2016).

Third-year head coach Brent Venables' Sooners are 6-6 overall and finished 2-6 in their first season in the SEC, while Navy is 8-3 overall and tied for third in the American Athletic Conference with a 6-2 league mark under second-year head coach Brian Newberry. The Midshipmen play Army on Dec. 14.

The Armed Forces Bowl will feature an Oklahoma team that ranks 21st nationally in total defense (318.3 ypg) and 13th in rushing defense (105.8 ypg) playing against a Navy squad that ranks 37th in scoring offense (32.3 ppg) and eighth in rushing offense (247.4 ypg).

Oklahoma lost its only previous game against Navy, falling 10-0 in 1965 in Norman. The Sooners are 46-10-1 all-time against programs currently in the American Athletic Conference.

OU is making its 58th bowl appearance, fourth most nationally, and owns a 31-25-1 all-time bowl record. Thirty-nine of those 58 have come in bowls that comprise the current New Year's Six (Orange [20], Sugar [8], Fiesta [5], Cotton [3], Rose [2] and Peach [1]). The 39 does not include OU's BCS National Championship appearance against Florida in the 2008 season.

The Sooners are making their 26th straight bowl appearance. It is by far the longest streak in school history (the previous record was eight in a row from the 1975-82 seasons under Barry Switzer) and is the second-longest active streak nationally behind Georgia's 28.

The Armed Forces Bowl was called the Fort Worth Bowl from 2003-05.
