Oklahoma State fell to Texas Tech, 56-48, Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium to conclude the home portion of its 2024 season.
Freshman quarterback Maealiuaki Smith made his first start for the Cowboys on Saturday, becoming the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Oklahoma State since Garret Rangel vs. Kansas on Nov. 5, 2022.
Smith finished 26-for-35 for 326 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception, along with a rushing touchdown. He’s the first OSU freshman to pass for over 300 yards since Garret Rangel against Kansas in 2022 and his 326 yards are the fifth most by a freshman in a game in program history.
Saturday marked the 17th time in program history that Oklahoma State had a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher and two 100-yard receivers in the same game (Smith-326, Gordon II-156, Stribling-133, Owens-124) and first time since last year’s TaxAct Texas Bowl against Texas A&M.
Brennan Presley became the first player in Oklahoma State history to reach 300 career receptions on Saturday. He was already the program leader in career receptions, now at 307.
Ollie Gordon II finished with 15 carries for 156 yards and three touchdowns, along with three receptions for 30 yards and a pass completion for 27 yards. It was his third game this season with three total touchdowns and now has nine rushing scores in his last five games. His 156 rushing yards mark his fourth 100-yard rushing game this season and 14th of his career.
The Cowboys are now 3 and 8 on the season and will travel to Colorado on Friday to play the Buffaloes. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
