The U.S. Department of Education has completed a sexual harassment investigation of Owasso Public Schools.
The investigation began earlier this year after the death of a nonbinary student by suicide after a fight inside a bathroom at Owasso High School. The investigation found that, over a three-year period, multiple students were subjected to repeated sex-based slurs, harassment and physical assault but district staff failed to take proper action and were deliberately indifferent to students' civil rights.
The district has entered into a resolution agreement that calls for it to review policies and provide additional training. It will also conduct a climate survey on sexual harassment in the district.
