U.S. Justice Department to Open Review of 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre

The U.S. Department of Justice will review the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The Oklahoma Supreme Court dismissed a survivors' reparations lawsuit earlier this year. Survivor descendants say the review is long overdue and a step toward acknowledging the suffering endured by survivors and their descendants. The Justice Department's Civil Rights Cold Case Unit plans to release its report as part of the Emmett Till Cold Case Act. The Massacre happened May 31st and June 1st, 1921, in an area then known as Black Wall Street, when white mobs killed dozens and injured more than 800 black residents.
